We are pleased to announce that on 23 September 2011, our Big Hanna model T40 was installed at the prestigious Heritage Awali Resort (www.heritageawali.mu) in the Bel Ombre region of southern Mauritius. Our distributor in Mauritius, DurablEnviro’s Local Director, Chantal Gordon Gentil and Susteco’s Cecilia Ek, successfully supervised the installation and thereafter conducted training sessions at the Heritage Awali.
Two separate training sessions were conducted at the Heritage Awali, one for management and another for operational staff followed by hands on training sessions with the T40. The Big Hanna was officially commissioned when the General Manager Mr. Lindley Thomen introduced Heritage Awali’s first batch of food waste for composting using the Big Hanna T40.
The Heritage Awali is seriously focused on sustainable development and by composting its food wastes onsite helps reduce its carbon footprint by reducing its landfill carbon emissions and reducing its transport related emissions. Moreover Heritage Awali will get a natural fertilizer onsite to use on the resorts beautifully manicured lawns and gardens thereby reducing its dependence on chemical fertilizer.
The Republic of Mauritius is very committed in achieving its transition to a sustainable island (Maurice Ile Durable). By composting food waste on-site rather than sending it to landfill it is not only minimizing the green house gas emissions but also significantly reducing emissions from HGV. Moreover, when using the compost from Big Hanna, it enhances the benefits to the environment since there are more plants absorbing C02.
